“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
One can argue that unintentionally we tend to center ourselves in our own desires and wishes. We are in a constant battle with our old selves whose nature is to be self centered, envious, egoistic, only seeking its own.
I’ve caught myself many times deep diving in only what I want; with this I am not saying we cannot be goal oriented, have ambitions or dreams. I am mainly referring to our hearts posture and our mindset. Truthfully, do we desire to do God’s will here on earth, are we able to say God this is what I want to do but may your will be done in my life?
Putting God first is like waking up on the right side of the bed everyday. When I begin my every day with God suddenly I am more patient I find that what once overwhelmed me does not anymore. There’s a different attitude, a different mindset. Truly the fruit of the spirit begins to manifest:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
When we put God first we are establishing His order in our lives. We are telling God that He is worthy, that His daily faithfulness, His continual love and provision means everything to us. Whole heartedly putting Him first makes His goodness and love follow:
“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalms 23:6
Aside from our spiritual growth— what happens when we put God first? Our family is blessed and highly favored. Putting God first means leading our Children into the best inheritance. Putting God first means blessing our future generations with the seed ( the word of God) that will continue to spread. When I put God first I am not only thinking of myself but if my household.
I pray that God continues giving us the strength to keep walking. Father, even if distractions happen help us land right back into your presence. Help us to desire you everyday that we wake up. Help us to love you, truly make you first in our homes and our lives. May things begin to shift in our favor.
In Jesus’ name Amen.
Blessings!
