Spending Time With Jesus At Home

Very frequently we say “…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 truly, how can we lead our homes to God? I whole heartedly believe wether you are the nurturer at home or the leader the Lord expects us to lead our children to him.

I don‘t have much experience as a parent just yet as my children are 1 and 2 years of age (I believe many that have much more experience will read this, feel free to comment what has helped you so far!) but if there is one thing I’ve observed is that they follow and do many things that we do at home. I ask God to help me show them with my actions what it means to follow the Lord, to be a true worshipper.

The Bible exhorts us “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 part of that includes having a personal relationship with Jesus. Simply, i cannot instruct or train up my child in the way he should go (to Jesus) if i am not truly living that life.

Why is it important to spend time with Jesus at home? Not only for our spiritual growth but to teach our children that following Jesus is more than just going to church. But showing them it is a life completely surrendered to God. That they may see us running to Jesus always!

I once heard someone say if you do not teach your children the right way of living, the world will teach them their agenda. Oh! Hearing those words opened my mind to see we cannot be scared to teach our children the truth as the world doesn’t hold back.

Spending time with Jesus at home makes his commandments and statures our nature, our norm.

Lord, i ask you to help us seek you when we wake, throughout the day, and when we’re going to bed. May our actions reflect your love at home. Help us to be loving parents, patient, kind, understanding and merciful. Teach us to instruct our homes. Holy Spirit you are our guide here on earth, make us sensible to your word and help us follow through no matter how difficult the journey may get.

In Jesus’ name Amen.

Blessings!
