Forgiveness

If we think about it, forgiveness is one of the most selfless things to do. Which is why it can be difficult.

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Forgive as the Lord forgave you is a key phrase in this Bible verse. See, not always are we forgiving because the person who hurt you asked for forgiveness first, or did they demeanor change they might still have the same attitude. But it is OUR JOB as God’s children to put those feelings aside and forgive.

Oftentimes we won’t hear a sorry from the person you need to hear from the most but we cannot make that hardened our hearts. Our prime example:

“Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.” Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭34‬ ‭NIV‬‬
‭‭

At this very moment Jesus is being crucified in between criminals. He had been beaten, mocked, tortured, dragged through until the very end and still He found forgiveness in his heart for humanity.

Unforgiveness can rot the heart in an unimaginable way. The Bible tells us “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬
. This act makes someone bitter, cold, ruthless, angry. How can we guard our hearts full of grudges? For everything flows from it… one of the most liberating feelings is forgiveness. Once you experience it, nobody wants to ever let it go!

At times we’ll need help to be able to forgive. Past traumas can blind us in such way that we’ll need prayer, fasting and someone to talk to. Unforgiveness can cloud someone’s judgement and make all point of views negative.

But thank God he can give us the strength to live a pure happy life. We don’t have to be in state of Unforgiveness, once you are redeemed none of what others do affect you as it once did. Times will come where we’ll have to forgive even when the person doesn’t deserve it but it is so worth it! It’s worth your salvation and your freedom.

God, I ask you today to help us be forgiving. Help us to forgive as you did those in the cross. Help us to forgive as you forgave us our sins. Help us to guard our hearts and minds, may we find a way to breakthrough any Unforgiveness. Help us to walk in your truth day by day, may we understand although we are not perfect we serve a perfect God who can guide us through it all.

In Jesus’ name. Amen

Blessings!
