This is a famous topic in today’s world. Stress seems to be almost inevitable. Almost as in there are stressful situations we can avoid getting into, but there are some that simply land on our lap.
What is the Bible’s stance on this? An all time favorite verse says:
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
When I read this I can understand that because of His love I am able to rest on Him. The verse states because He cares for you; when someone cares for another the person they’ll always want the very best for them, they’re always willing to lend a hand. One thing I love about our creator is that he is real, that when I rest on him, there is truly rest.
What does casting all my anxieties/worries/stress on the Lord look like for me?
Firstly I like to prepare my mind to understand and fully comprehend that everything is in God’s control. I will do all I can in my power in the moment but the rest is up to Him. I used to say ok, it’s in God’s hand and continue to stress about it and continually go over the situation in my mind but that is not how it works. I put it in God’s hand and have to trust that he is in control and that he will guide me and give me my next steps in due time.
Secondly, prayer & Bible study. These things have sincerely helped me at stressful moments. Talking to Jesus as my friend, savior, sustainer, provider, protector and much more— He listens! The scripture is the Lord speaking to us, when I’m reading scripture it’s life to my bones, to my spiritual self. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12. The word of God is so alive that it actively works in our lives while we’re reading or studying. It truly helps our minds be focused on him.
Also, taking things one day at a time. The scripture tells us “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Mathew 6:34. I know this is an easier said than done type of thing but truly, ask the Lord to help you live and see your situation one day at a time. Many times we’re caught up in tomorrow, how this stress will roll over to tomorrow where we don’t know that is certain, for we never know about the next day; only about the day we’re currently living.
Leaving it all in the Lord’s hands shows that we know who he is. Shows that we truly trust in our creator whom knows all things, who is omnipresent has total and complete control.
Lord, I ask you to help us trust you at all times. May we understand that there are times where we just need to be still and trust in your word. God I pray for anyone going through a stressful situation. May you give them the peace they need, give them clarity, give them wisdom to navigate. May they rest their harts and minds on you and walk on your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Blessings!
