In the book of Mark chapter 5 from verses 35 and on we find desperation, hope, and also faith. It’s heard within a multitude of people“… “Your daughter is dead” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?””. Mark 5:35
In this instance there is a dead girl at the house of Jairus the synagogue leader, whereas Jesus was passing by and those who went out to get him knew only Christ can make this miracle of making her live again. They did not sit and wait, they did not sit and give up although there were many doubters around them.
It was more important to reach Jesus than to be discouraged. This event shows us that in our despair, we can run to Jesus who has the answer. Many times it is our unbelief that hinders our blessings. “When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.”
Mark 5:38 NIV
Everyone around was crying because of the death of this girl. One can only imagine the pain being felt in that very moment, especially the parents. Even then Jesus’ response could only bring peace and clarity. “He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.””
Mark 5:39 NIV
Crazy thing to say in such a raw moment, at the end of the verse it states they laughed at him. As that is impossible, she is gone and nothing can be done. This is when Jesus steps in, He will always step in on the right time. He will always and forever have the last words, which in this case “He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.”
Mark 5:41-42 NIV
Talitah koum are the words we repeat to any dead dreams, to any words once prophesied over your life and you have for dead. We declare the that the Lord revives anything the enemy has tried to shut off. May you burn more than ever for the Lord. May He have the last words over your situation. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
Blessings!
