What does the Bible say about prayer?

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2

Speaking about essentials, much need for our nourishment is prayer. Prayer is like a piece of the puzzle that cannot go missing, it’s like how a plant can’t survive without water. We cannot survive our Christian or Christlike walk without it, being in communication with our creator is such a relief, of course with studying His word it goes hand in hand.

In case it hasn’t been said it is not normal to be a Christian and not pray. The scripture says to devote ourselves to prayer, that may not always look like kneeling down and closing our eyes. That can look like us driving in a car and talking to God, on a break at work and talking to Him. Could be us doing chores and talking to God, could be taking care of the kiddos and talking to God. Can be also in our minds, it can also look like taking a walk or run outside and talking to God. There are many ways because it simply involves in talking with him.

From personal experience, when we pray and study His word we become sensible to His voice in the Spirit, in general we are better people because we begin to walk, act, think and talk like Christ. Prayer can bring clarity to us, the many times I’ve come before the Lord in prayer troubled or conflicted or frustrated and when I finished talking to God I just felt refreshment. It’s like in the book of psalms, the psalmist was really going through it and by the end of each prayer to the Lord he would speak with hope.

There are numerous verses about prayer:

  • This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14
  • Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12
  • The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
  • But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6

And many more, what we can conclude is that prayer brings us reward, refreshment, a close relationship with God and answers!

Our hope today is that someone can draw closer to the Lord through fasting, prayer and studying His word. We’re hopefully for stronger relationships in this journey, help us Lord to seek you at all times, to be more like you in all love and understanding. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessings!
