He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will— 6 to the praise of His glorious grace and favor, which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved [His Son, Jesus Christ] – Ephesians 1:5-6
The first time I read this verse, tears starting coming down due to God’s love towards me, towards us!
Predestined and lovingly planned… we’re talking about a God who thought about us since before we were conceived. He loved us so much even before we knew what it meant to love ourselves. When one is planning, it is something taken into much consideration; planning takes time, attention, and dedication. God has all those things for us. Many speak negatively over their lives or even complain about what’s already been accomplished, but we will not be like those; we will not be like the people of Israel. The Lord brought them through their toughest times, took them out of slavery, and provided in abundance, but they were not content.
We are of those who are immensely grateful! He predestined victory for us; He predestined and planned for us to be adopted to Himself, to be His own children. The word of God says in Ephesians 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus”. This is our authority; we are reborn in Him and given a new identity, a heavenly one.
We want to bring to our mind, remind ourselves (I say this a lot) of the love of God. Why do I say this? David in the book of Psalms had to remind himself in many instances, almost in every chapter, of the love and hand of God. Times can get tough; things often do not go as we plan. We feel that we want more, not satisfied with our accomplishments, and we forget what it is to be content. Philippians 4:11-13 “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
So yes, this is our reminder today: the love of God, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and our reward. We hope you are blessed throughout this day, and may these words resonate with you throughout this week. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
