A House Built on God

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15

Today’s generation is filled with so many influences, we are in an “influencer era” where all want to influence and go as far as lying, deceiving, and presenting things in a way that they are not. Portraying fake happiness, fake unity, fake love. When we are founding ourselves on the rock it is not that we are deceiving; we are still going to go through hardship, through trials. When we are called to build our households, our families upon the rock, it’s not a call to build upon ourselves, because we are human and personally cannot even depend on our own strength. But when we are on the ROCK, we are only dependent on the Almighty.

When our household is built on God, we learn that it is our custom to depend on God. It becomes clear to us that God does not need our material things to bless us! When I first married my husband, we began building our small business. At first, it was really hard, but then things began to flow. When you get used to the flow, everything is good, everything is fine. This is where I learned God is the provider of my home; suddenly one day, going through the schedule of the next month, we were towards the end of a month. I saw that what we normally made in one day is what we were going to make for the entire month! It was hard; I was so very nervous. I can remember myself going into “what can I do mode.” I cried before God for days; we had expenses and didn’t know how we were going to cover them. But suddenly, I remembered that in the first couple of days, calls and trips started coming in like crazy, flowing like a river, and suddenly we were packed again for the month. In that very moment, I understood who my rock is—Jesus! I learned from there that when I worry, I am not trusting God; I am depending on me and my own strength. If we are doing what we are supposed to do to provide for our family and are faithful with our first fruits, God is an almighty God to do His work, the rest.

Choosing God every single day is the key. Not every day is perfect. Some days are more irritating than others. Waking up late to work, or waking up to a messy house, or having to get the kids ready for school, or having to pull an all-nighter because of work, or waking up the next day without knowing the bills are getting paid, or waking up and not knowing how we are going to eat; this is not every day, but from time to time. What is the choice we have here? We bow to our circumstance or we choose God. We choose not only to trust God daily but to show God in our lives. Because we’re “going through it,” that’s when we mostly shine. Shine in our children’s lives, through devotionals, through prayer, through love. The bottom line, Christ must be the builder of our homes.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭127‬:‭1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

What better foundation than a never-ending one, the one who has all the answers, even when the answer is not always yes. But we trust Him anyway. This is our daily goal; may our houses be built on the Lord!

God, I pray for each household this Monday morning. You can make a way, you can sustain, you can provide, you can nourish, you can heal. Help us to choose You every day at home, teach us to lean not on our own understanding or our own efforts, help us to be more like You. I pray every household receives peace on this beautiful God-given day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessings!
