I get it now. Now that I am a parent, although I am extremely new in this journey and I have so much to endure, I understand when I’ve heard being said to speak words of life over my children, no matter how things may seem. Speak positive things over my family, over my household.
It is well known what the word of God tells us “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21 often times we forget or rather don’t take in mind that although our words can’t cause physical harm it can most definitely influence in a positive of negative way. As I am reading the end of that verse I’m imaging as if in when I want to live a healthy lifestyle I must change my eating habits and also my physical habits. In that same way, if i want to live a healthy life, have a healthy household of course seeking God first, but also having or speaking a healthy language. To help keep a healthy mindset and atmosphere at home. Of course attacks will come and not everything will be perfect 24/7, but something we know is that the word of God is being established one way or another.
Are our children picking up healthy verbal habits from us? Are we pouring positive and empowering words onto our household? “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” Proverbs 10:11 I pray to God we at our home be a fountain of life in our children’s lives. It is our want to see the will and power of God turn on over our family. As a parent, I want to get into the habit of speaking life, so much so that when my kids grow older they can do the same for those around them.
Father, today I pray for guidance and strength. Help us to be the kind of parents that know what to say in adverse times, who know how to give great advice in the right moment. Help us to be stronger in you, help us to grow in your word and in wisdom. May our children be nourished in their own homes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Blessings!
