“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him.” 1 Samuel 1:27
There is a kind of faith that doesn’t just shout, one that is not only spoken but that also weeps before the Lord. Where at times, you don’t see the answer yet and start to wonder “God, are You still in the midst of this problem?” Hannah, the woman referenced in this text probably was very familiar with this feeling or place or state.
There was such a deep desire in her heart, she longed for something that hadn’t come to pass for years! Day in and day out, month by month, I can only imagine the feeling a disappointment that could’ve came with the waiting from time to time. And the prayers, the silent prayers, the many tears that only her and God could understand.
Here’s something important, what made Hannah special? That she prayed? No, not only that, it’s that she kept believing. There are many that because of the pain, they allow it to push them away from God but not Hannah. She used this pain to draw closer to God.
The Bible details that she poured her soul before the Lord. I’m sure the prayer wasn’t perfect or super elaborate or eloquent but just real, with honest faith. And it makes me think that this is the faith God is looking for from us, not like we have it all together but one that demonstrates, even here right now in this painful situation I am still trusting you.
You might be in a waiting season, waiting for an answer, waiting for something to finally change, waiting for God to do only what He can do; the impossible. Let this woman in the Bible Hannah, remind you of the truth of Christ; God see what you have deep in the secret, God even hears the prayers your lips have not spoken only internally, and lastly God is not ignoring you or your situation! Let this also be a reminder that your time waiting on the Lord is not wasted time.
Father, thank you for this day and for the reminder of your word. Help me to believe even when I have to wait, I ask you to give strength to my faith when I feel weak. Help me to remember that you are working even when I don’t see it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Blessings!
